BRIDGEPORT TO ADOPT PARCXMART'S PARKING AND LOCAL MERCHANT SMART CARD PAYMENT SYSTEM
Bridgeport becomes second city in Connecticut to offer Parcxmart Technologies' interoperable coin-free parking meter and garage parking, and multi-functional Smart Cards for retail purchases
Bridgeport, CT – March 29, 2006 – Bridgeport Mayor John M. Fabrizi today announced the decision integrate Parcxmart Technologies' parking and local merchant smart card payment system throughout Bridgeport, Connecticut's largest city. The City of Bridgeport expects to replace its entire downtown on-street meter inventory with high tech Parcxmart compliant meters over the next year. Bridgeport is the second city in Connecticut , following New Haven , to adopt the interoperable Parcxmart payment solution . Parcxmart Cards are interoperable between all participating municipalities, which means that consumers can use their Bridgeport or New Haven Parcxmart Cards for parking and for purchasing items in participating stores in both cities.
“Overall this is a practical and profitable example of how the city and its local businesses can work together to provide improved services while at the same time encouraging local economic development,” explained Fabrizi. “The card will make parking, commuting, and shopping easier for everyone who lives in and comes to Bridgeport .”
The Parcxmart Card and patent-pending payment solution is America 's first fully functional parking and local merchant smart card payment system. The Parcxmart™ Card solution is a comprehensive payment platform that uses smart card technology to offer drivers and consumers a convenient one card alternative to coins and cash for small dollar transactions at on-street and off-street parking locations, as well as for retail purchases at participating merchants across the United States.
When the Bridgeport Parcxmart Card program becomes fully operational, people coming to and living in Bridgeport will be able to load up to $100 onto a Parcxmart™ Card and use it to pay for parking at participating parking lots and garages, and for retail purchases at participating local merchants.
“We have seen how successful the Parcxmart payment system has already been in New Haven ,” said Morteza Liayatgheybi, traffic engineer, City of Bridgeport . “We are developing a network of local merchants that will generate interest in using the Parcxmart Card and at the same time we are modernizing the city's parking infrastructure to provide convenience and a user friendly payment option to the public.”
“With Bridgeport adopting the Parcxmart payment system we are one step closer to realizing our goal of having many neighboring cities adopt the Parcxmart system so that over time there will be a convenient alternative for parking payments for New England's commuters and local travelers wherever they drive,” said John Regan, President and CEO of Parcxmart Technologies, an electronic payments company. “The benefits of offering multi-functional smart cards to a parking system operator are ease of parking management while operating costs decrease. Merchants benefit because they can generate store traffic and income by selling the cards, reloading value on the cards and accepting them. The interoperability of these cards means that consumers can use the cards for parking and for purchasing items within participating local stores and in all participating cities.”
