Where can I buy/reload a Truckee Card?
You can buy the card online or at a number of downtown merchants. At the merchant store you can use cash, credit or debit to load money to the card. Visa, MasterCard Discover and Amex are accepted at the online store.
If you obtain a Truckee Card at a merchant store it costs $1 when you first load money to it. If you purchase one or more cards online there is a total $2 shipping and handling fee per order (not per card).
There is no additional cost to reload money to your card. All cards must be reloaded at a merchant store.
How much money can I put on a card?
Currently Truckee Cards can be loaded with up to $100.
No, the card has no expiration date. Money loaded to the card is good for as long as you keep the card.
Do I need to register to buy/use a card?
No. Neither the City nor Parcxmart requires you to register to buy, reload or use a Truckee Card.
Like other cards you may have, keep it in your purse or wallet and carry it with you. When it runs low you can reload it at a number of downtown merchants that also accept the card as payment. Next time you’re in town, park and treat yourself to coffee or lunch at a Truckee Card merchant and pay for it all with your Truckee Card.
Can I use my Truckee Card when I travel?
You can use your Truckee Card when you travel to other Parcxmart branded Card Cities at parking meters, at selected garages and lots and in local stores that display the Parcxmart sign. You can also reload your Truckee Card in another Parcxmart city. You can even buy a souvenir card from your travel destination and use it when you return home.
The Truckee Card is just like cash and if you lose it no refund will be given.
The Truckee Card is very durable and can be used 1,000’s of times at the meters or in a store. However, like all plastic cards it should not be exposed to excessive heat or cold. Do not bend the card and do not scratch the ‘gold’ chip. Over time the chip may appear worn. This is normal wear-and-tear and will not degrade performance. If necessary wipe excessive moisture off the chip before inserting into a meter.
Your card balance is printed on your receipt when you first buy and load a card, when you reload your card or when you use your card to purchase something at a store. The receipt includes the starting balance and ending balance before and after the transaction.
The card balance is also displayed when you first insert your card into a meter. If you want to check your balance and are at or near any meter, you can insert the card, wait for the balance to display and remove your card without purchasing time.
What should I do if the meter does not display my card balance?
If the balance does not display when you insert your card, press the button once and reinsert your card. If the balance still does not appear, there may be a problem with the meter. Call the number on the front of the meter to report the problem. Note the street and meter number.
What should I do if the meter displays an error when I use my card?
The error may display for several reasons:
- The card was inserted incorrectly (see Using your Card to Pay for Parking)
- The meter may have a problem. Remove and reinsert the card. If the error message persists there is probably an error with the meter – not the card. To check, locate any other meter nearby, insert your card and wait for the balance to display. If the balance displays this indicates the original meter has an unknown problem that should be reported to the town. If the error displays on the second meter please call the toll free number on the back of your card. A representative will take your call and provide additional assistance.
What if a merchant refuses to accept the card for payment?
Merchant stores that display the Truckee Card sign and who load and reload cards are also contracted to accept the card for the goods and services they provide their customers (subject to certain restrictions). To allow us to improve your experience with the card for more than just parking, please let us know if a merchant has refused to accept your card for payment Call the toll free number on the back of your card or send us an email at truckeecard@parcxmart.com.
